Help
The RIsources portal offers two ways of finding information about research infrastructures. You can access these by clicking on 'Catalog' or 'Search' at the top of any page.
For more information about this information service from the DFG, this help feature and how to get in touch with the relevant contacts, go to the 'About RIsources' section by clicking on the appropriate button.
Catalog
With the catalog function you can filter the entries in RIsources by geographical, subject-based and content-based criteria. The three filter groups are main scientific domain, category and state.
Main scientific domain: Corresponds to the
subject areas defined by the DFG
Category: Type of research infrastructure, based
primarily on the categorisation according to the ESF's MERIL project.
Selection
An entry for a research infrastructure may be assigned to several criteria within a filter group. The number in brackets after a criterion indicates the number of entries which exist for the selected criterion.
- In 'Selection', click on an active criterion within the filter groups. This selection directly affects the number of results shown in the hit list and the filter options. A selected criterion is shown in bold and with a tick.
- Criteria shown in grey are inactive, which means they are not selected and do not apply to the filtered entries in the list.
- Click on a criterion again to deselect it.
- The 'Current selection' box shows the criteria selected from the filter groups above. Click on a criterion to remove it from the selection and modify the hit list and criteria selection in the filter groups accordingly.
Please note that a filter group may have a scroll bar on the right, depending on the length of the alphabetically arranged list of criteria. You can use the bar to scroll down and view the rest of the list.
Hit list
The hit list shows the entries found for the selected criteria. The number of hits is shown at the top of the list. You can also define the number of hits shown per page and how the results are sorted (by default they are sorted by name of facility in ascending order) and scroll through the results pages.
- Each hit is displayed as follows: name of institution, category and brief description.
- Click on the name of the institution, shown in blue, or -> more at the end of the entry to open a detailed view of the entry.
- Click on the PDF or print symbol to the right of the name to save the detailed view of the entry as a PDF file or print it.
Search
Click on the 'Search' button to find research infrastructures with a keyword search.
- Enter your search text in the 'Keyword(s)' box and click on 'Find'. The search results are shown under 'Hit list'.
- The hit list includes all the results which contain all of the search terms either as whole words or as part of words.
- The search covers almost all fields of the entry and may produce a very long hit list.
Hit list
The structure of the hit list is explained in the relevant section above under 'Catalog'.
Detailed view
Click on an entry in the hit list to open a details page on the research infrastructure.
- Click on '-> Back' to the right of the header 'Details page' to return to the hit list.
- Click on the PDF or print symbol to the right of the name to save the detailed view of the entry as a PDF file or print it.
Structure of entry
Every entry in RIsources is structured in the same way. However, information may not have been provided by the party responsible for all fields. These fields remain empty.
