ART-Dok provides an opportunity to publish, index and to long-term archive documents on Art History – free of charge and in
electronic format supporting the principles of Open Access. Heidelberg University Library guarantees for the long-term availability
and citability of the published documents by offering permanent and standardized URLs / URNs. The import of the data as well
as the compilation of the metadata is done by the staff of Heidelberg University Library. Both original primary publications
and secondary publications of already printed works can be published in ART-Dok. The so-called “paper series” offers the possibility
to create a pool of electronic publications linked to a person or a certain topic. If required sub-portals can be set up,
which provide authors with direct access to their electronic publications. The layout of these sub-portals can be adapted
to the requests of the authors. Electronic publications can also be united to a group forming a so-called “Collection”.
The
main focus of the operating institution lies in the systematic indexing or rather the visibility of electronic publications
in disciplinary and interdisciplinary search systems. In addition to being listed in German library catalogues, ART-DOK is
a registered data provider for the Open Archives Initiative and holds its own OAI-interface.
